I took this picture of the Calgary Vipers scoreboard (featuring future GLROTY Colin Moro) during better times. Today is about 60ºC to 70ºC colder (depending on the wind chill) than it was when the Vipers were busy taking the first of 4 out of 4 from Chico during back-to-back doubleheaders.
I’ve driven past The Hallowed Grounds of Foothills Stadium quite a few times this winter, and the scoreboard is clearly visible from Crowchild Trail. For whatever reason, the video screen portion of the scoreboard is still on.
The ruggedly handsome mug of Mr. Moro is not, however, what’s featured to thousands of commuters. Rather, it’s a seemingly random string of white numbers on a black backdrop. Is this better than just turning the screen off for the winter? And if its better to leave the screen on, why can’t we get a slideshow of heroic Vipers highlights?
