Felix Jose Immortalized in GBL Footnote

Notice anything new with the canned final paragraph the GBL sometimes adds to its press releases?

About The Golden Baseball League…  over 50 former major leaguers have played in the GBL including MLB All-Stars Rickey Henderson, Jose Canseco, and Felix Jose.

That’s right, our main man #24 Felix Jose – the most unassuming base stealer of the 2008 GBL season – has been footnoticised.  The honour is well deserved.

Felix Jose bashed a 0.391/0.459/0.613 split for the Calgary Vipers last season, and though he’s not shown on the current Vipers roster, I don’t think this comes as a surprise given his age (Latin 43).  Jose was an MVP-candidate all season long, even though he played DH.  Watching him lumber down the basepaths, us fans assumed time and 11 MLB seasons had been rough on his knees.  In spite of this, he stole six bases last season, each steal more surprising and amazing than the last.

In 2008, Jose was 2nd in the Golden League in AVG, 2nd in BABiP (.414), 4th in OBP, 6th in SLG, T-6th in RsBI (70) T-9th in hits (109), T-9th in home runs (15), and 10th in BB/K (.950).

Felix’s clutch bat and impossible steals will be missed in 2009.
