The first sentence in paragraph nine of latest Calgary Vipers press release reads as follows:
With the retirement of rookie third baseman Travis Drader former Cracker-Cat infielder Rob Recuenco and three year veteran catcher Kevin Price are expected to round out the position player side of the Vipers roster.
Uh wha? Travis Drader retired? Did I miss the big announcement, or do the Vipers consider sentence one of paragraph nine sufficient enough for the man who partied like a rockstar. As we’ve discussed earlier, Travis Drader was the second most powerful Viper last season (and as a rookie, no less!), but also hit into some bad luck when he put the ball in play (he’d hit ’em where they were). As a fan, his at-bats were always met in anticipation, and his presence on the hallowed grounds of Foothills Stadium will be missed in 2009.
Best of luck on your future endeavors, Travis.
