While Joe “The Cobra Clutch” Sergent threw six innings of shut-out baseball, the Vipers’ bats were busy scoring eight runs en route to an 11-4 victory in Tucson. The Vipers now lead the GBL Championship best-of-five 2 games to 0. The Vipers are coming home for games three, four and five.
Fehlandt Lentini and Sergio Pedroza each had three hits, and they each hit – along with Wilver Perez – a big home run. Feh led off the game with a solo knock that set the tone for the entire night: this offense is going to be very difficult to stop. Wilver Perez had 5 RsBI in total last night, including a key hit in the eight that drove in Nelson Castro, lead to two more runs that inning, and snuffed out any glimmer of hope the Toros may have had regarding a rally.
The Vipers’ bullpen got the job done, capped off with Travis Hughes recording the last four outs of the game while keeping the slate clean. One has to assume the Vipers will start Dallas Mahan – who pitched very well against Edmonton in game three of last round – tonight, but I haven’t read any confirmation of that as of 6:30AM.
Game three is tonight at 7:00PM on the hallowed grounds of Foothills Stadium. Fill the seats, Calgary. Go Vipers!
